hessnatur

German natural-fashion pioneer hessnatur has been making clothes from plant fibres since 1976, decades before the industry had a word for it. So when hessnatur went looking for something genuinely new, it found something very old. A leaf.

Launched in June 2024, the hessnatur pineapple T-shirt is an airy slub single jersey, spun half from Re-Root-Tex pineapple leaf fibre and half from GOTS organic cotton. The artist Dr. Propolus drew the pineapple print.

It was the first T-shirt anyone had ever made from our fibre. Everything since began there.

Germany, 2025 · The world’s first pineapple quilt

Sanders-Kauffmann

Sanders-Kauffmann has been filling German beds since 1823. Two centuries of down, cashmere, camel hair and wild silk. Then the house asked a question it had never asked before. What if the warmth came from a plant?

They put it to a university. The answer came back as a leaf.

Unveiled at Heimtextil 2025 after three years of development, the world’s first pineapple quilt is filled entirely with Re-Root-Tex fibre. Light, breathable, and grown by nobody: the pineapple was planted for its fruit. The warmth is what was left over.

Kazuma

For half a century the looms of Fukui have woven some of Japan’s finest cloth. KURASIKU, the natural-materials house of curtain maker Kazuma, has built its name on rare fibres: linen, hemp, ramie, bamboo, washi.

Pineapple is the newest name on that list.

KICCA, written 黄果, “yellow fruit”, is a curtain woven 50/50 from Re-Root-Tex pineapple leaf fibre and cotton, made entirely in Japan. A patent-pending system threads fabric ties through eight holes in the cloth itself — no plastic hooks, no pleats, no tassel, so not a centimetre of cloth is wasted. The fabric is also naturally deodorising (99%), UV-protective (92%), antibacterial and moisture-regulating.

KICCA launched on Makuake, Japan’s crowdfunding platform, on 20 May 2025, priced from ¥15,840. Japan bought five times more of it than Kazuma dared to plan for.

Behind every metre is the same fibre facility in Bangladesh that employs 100+ women — the same hands seen processing pineapple leaf for KICCA as for every other Re-Root-Tex collaboration.

★ PETA Vegan Fashion Award 2026 — Best Vegan Jeans

Denim is unforgiving. The looms run heavy, the yarns are pulled tight, and the cloth is built to survive decades of wear. It is the last place in fashion you would expect to find a leaf.

Marc O’Polo put one there anyway. The Enni jean is woven with Re-Root-Tex pineapple leaf fibre spun through its organic cotton, and in 2026 it was named Best Vegan Jeans at the PETA Vegan Fashion Awards — judged not just on ethics, but on fit, quality, innovation and comfort, the same category previously won by adidas, PUMA and Armedangels.

Marc O’Polo describes the blend as “13 per cent summer vibes and 87 per cent natural reliability” — a fibre otherwise destined for burning or left to rot in the fields it came from.

A fibre that was once burned in a field is now a pair of jeans somebody will wear for ten years, made with Re-Root-Tex as Marc O’Polo’s official pineapple fibre partner.

Armedangels

Armedangels has spent two decades proving that ethical fashion can also be desirable. Its Pinayarn Mix collection — a top, tailored shorts, a bucket hat, all in the same earthy dried-palm tone — is where that proof gets a new fibre.

The blend reaches Armedangels through fibre partner Ananas Anam, and includes Re-Root-Tex pineapple leaf fibre — confirmed directly with Rony Khan, Re-Root-Tex’s founder.

Berlin, 2026 · Circular Society, Berlin Fashion Week

VORN

VORN — The Berlin Fashion Hub — staged Circular Society as part of the official Berlin Fashion Week programme: a project built entirely around one idea — materials by Re-Root-Tex, designed by young designers, made in a microfactory.

Re-Root-Tex supplied a pineapple-and-wool yarn — 30% pineapple leaf fibre, 70% wool. SHIFT, VORN’s in-house knit microfactory, knitted it into an oversized menswear sweater with a saddle shoulder and ottoman detailing, on a Stoll flat-knitting machine.

The piece was built around circular design principles from the start: linked seams, no overlocking, and shaping chosen to avoid stress points — so the garment can be unravelled and the yarn recovered at end of life.
