Originally from Bangladesh, based in Germany since 2019. From apparel merchandising in Dhaka to founding Re-Root-Tex in Germany.

Bangladesh, 2008–2019 · Before the fibre

From the factory floor to $100 million

Rony Khan graduated in 2008 with a B.Sc. in Apparel Manufacturing from BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology. From 2009 to 2011 he worked as a Merchandiser at Newage Group, a garments factory.

In 2011 he joined Team Sourcing Company, then a young buying house with a turnover of just USD 50,000. Working under the leadership of Mr. Rakib, he helped grow the business significantly — by the time he left in 2019, its turnover had surpassed $100 million.

In 2019 he began a Master’s degree in Management of Textile Trade and Technology, which brought him to Germany.

Germany, 2020–2023 · Finding the fibre

A leaf, and a factory of his own

His master’s degree led him, in 2020, to start researching material innovation — which is when he discovered pineapple fibre.

In 2021 he partnered with Ananas Anam as a raw-material producer in Bangladesh, under the name Eco Fresh Agro. As the business grew, he built a factory and hired a team — and around the same time, also took on a role as Key Account Manager at Kaiser Bekleidung GmbH.

January 2024 · Re-Root-Tex is founded

Founding Re-Root-Tex

By 2023, the Ananas Anam business began to slow down. But by then, Rony had shown many people a dream of a better life, and couldn’t bring himself to let that dream fall apart. He left his job at Kaiser Bekleidung and, in January 2024, founded his own company: Re-Root-Tex.

In 2024, the company launched its first pineapple T-shirt, with hessnatur. In 2025, a pineapple towel with Feroze1888 Mills and a summer duvet with Sanders-Kauffmann followed. In 2026, pineapple denim launched with Marc O’Polo.

The motivation

Why Re-Root-Tex

The idea was born during the pandemic. Rony was searching for a topic for his master’s thesis when COVID-19 hit, and found himself in lockdown in his dorm in Mönchengladbach. With all flights grounded, he noticed something striking: a clear blue sky. At the same time, everyone was talking about climate change.

“That’s when it hit me — the first ten years of my career had not been part of a conscious business, and the textile industry as a whole was causing serious damage.” He began researching alternative materials to polyester.

There was a second, deeply personal reason. When he created jobs in his village, he saw how many women were humiliated within their own families and had no sense of dignity. But once they had jobs at his factory — without needing prior experience or having to move to the city — something changed. They began to dream of sending their children to school, and their lives started to gain recognition and respect.

“That’s why I couldn’t let it end.” He left his job, saved his factory, Eco Fresh Agro in Bangladesh, and started Re-Root-Tex in Germany.
